I just bought myself a Canon Rebel T3 yesterday(my very first DSLR) and wanted to test it out after reading a book a watching 6 hrs worth of youtube videos yesterday. Its getting easier and im very impressed for a $449 camera. Let me know what you think, and take it easy since ive only had it for 24hrs and have never touched one before.

Get a prime lense (single focal length) like a 50mm with a 1.8f or 1.4f-stop. I picked up the 1.8f 50mm and LOVE it. For $100 you get great focus by controlling the aperture.

btw, does your tlr-1 fit the sig's rail? I've got a 220 and looking at the same light for its rail.

Lol yea my gf's sister has a macro and a zoom for her canon so I plan to try them out. I just enjoy taking pictures. Now I can't wait for spring to get with honda53s and take the cars for cruises and stop at good spots.

Yea I plan on trying a few lenses once I master the 18-55 that came with it. It only goes to 4.5f though.

I've never tried the stream light on the sig because it'd be the worst home defense weapon ever haha. A .22 and a mosquito! Although mines extremely reliable. I'll try it though later on.

Remember the camera you have is a crop format camera, meaning it takes a picture 1.6 times the size of a full frame 35mm camera. So a 50mm is effectively a 80mm lens. For normal photography a fixed 35mm would be considered a "normal" or 50mm lens on your camera. Canon's 50mm f1.8, the "nifty fifty" is OK if you can find an old one with the metal mount.
Once you see "L" grade Canon glass on your camera you'll never go back.
If you want to learn about your camera and lenses, here is the forum to lurk in.

You will learn more in this forum than in any 100 books you can buy. These guys know their stuff. It's like the MDS forum of photography minus the politics.

btw: If you are in my area and want to try some glass on your cam...happy to oblige. I live near Loch Raven and there are a ton of photo ops there. My lenses cover 16mm-400mm in zooms and 24mm- 300mm in primes.
