Why the shell holder for Lee and Frankfort Arsenal hand primers are the same for 9mm/.38 Super &.40/10mm (both use a #19 shell holder) yet we have different shell plates for the Hornady LnL press? I mean for the hand primers why dont they use a separate shell holder for 9mm/.38 Super from .40/10mm?

I ask this because I have noticed when loading .38 Super Comp and I slide the shell in the holder for my FA hand primer the primer doesn't want to start to seat unless it is backed off a touch from fully inserted.

I just got one one these hand primers. I noticed that too. Without looking up any data I just assumed because the 40 had a rebated head that it was same head diameter.

Sounds like a slight variation in rim diameter. I use the RCBS Universal which doesnt require a shell holder and never had a problem with anything I've stuck in it from 9mm to 338 RCM
