Tomorrow I leave for this event. 3 days in northern Alabama. Me and around 300+ other shooters. 14 stages over 2 days plus a 6(?) stage side match on Friday. Top pros KC Eusebio and Julie Golob are entered this year along with the usual rimfire speed shooting specialists. Last 2 world championships were won by 17 year old junior shooter Kolby Pavlock, who has Grand Master rankings in 6 Steel Challenge firearm divisions. He won the titles shooting iron sights no less against all the optic shooters including the pros.

For those who didn't get the news, the NSSF will no longer be the organization running the Rimfire Challenge as of 1/1/2018. They have turned it over to the two of three surviving persons who founded it more than a decade ago, Michael Bane of Outdoor TV and Ken Jorgensen who recently retired from Ruger (the late Nelson Dymond was the third). For 2018 the current rules will be in effect. The new organization will be called the Rimfire Challenge Shooting Association.
As for the 2017 World Championship, two time defending champion young Kolby Pavlock outshot top pro KC Eusebio by 3 seconds to win his 3rd straight world championship. I accomplished my pre-event goal of finishing in at least 5th place in the Senior category (exactly, as it happens). Need to work on my physical side as I tired in the last 2 stages of the second day and might have gotten 3rd place if not for that (I was 3rd place Senior in both 2013 and 2014 World Championships).

Wish I'd have seen this and known you were going, I was there, too.

I wonder where the World Championship will be next year, considering Cavern Cove is for sale....

(yeah, I wish I had the money, I'd live on the property.....)
