I was thinking about possibly getting one or a Henry .22lr lever action for Christmas, but I was wondering if they're any good or not?

I have a Henry 22 lever gun it is real nice for what is is . It is not a target rifle with target sights. It is a very nice rifle and I would buy it again.

I have a Henry small game carbine and love it. It is way more accurate than my Win 9422's and the action is smoother. The peep sight on the SGC makes a big difference in group sizes especially with older eyes. I recently shot it at our clubs .22 steel shoot and I averaged about 2 seconds slower than the young kids shooting Ruger 10/22's, and I was shooting clean!

Nice man, and I've heard a lot of good things about Henry's.

Guess I'm the only one that says get the Ruger. I guess it depends on the rifles role. Plinker, hunter, HD in a pinch, all?

Probably catch some flak but that ole "Made in Murica or not made at all " shtik is lost on me. They may be fine rifles, but seem overpriced. Competition is just as accurate as a rimfire needs, and their CF stuff is even higher$$$ and tube fed. SMH.

Buds also has a sale on the CZ 527 in 7.62x39 with the American stock with rustic finish. Scope rings are included. It's something like $480 right now.

I have a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 in a slightly different stock configuration that's turned out to be an excellent rifle. Still, I can see myself getting the Ruger American in the same caliber sometime in the future.

As you probably know, 7.62x39 is possibly the least expensive centerfire rifle ammunition available, and a popular deer hunting caliber in different states.

Having had the CZ527 in the past, it was a well made gun but you had to reload for it to get great accuracy. It didn't like the 123gn ammo used in SKS's and Ak's. The best I could do with store bought was about 2 to 3 inches at 100 yards. By handloading with cast bullets, I cut the groups down to under an inch off the bench.

I haven't put real effort into yet, but I seem to be getting ok results with commercial ammo. In the pic below, there are two 5-shot groups, with Wolf and Hornady, with the CZ 527 from 100 yards that are 2 inches or less (squares are 1 inch on the side). They're lightly labeled with pencil if you expand the image. I think I had even better results with Tulammo, but need to find the target. There's a few shots on the top of the target using a different rifle. CZ 527 at 100 yards.jpg

Now that I think about it, I believe they may have changed the twist in the 527/7.62x39 version after they started making them again.
Supposed to have a chamber size that also meshes well with the surplus ammo, iirc.

Found a 50-yard target below. Sorry, no size markers, but the groups aren't bad. Top series is my shooting. Bottom series is Z man. I much prefer showing my rifle vs handgun shooting with him. We both were using a front bag. CZ 527 at 50 yards.jpeg

Both are really cool, I lean towards the Henry. As much as I like the Ruger, I’d rather have 762x39 in something semiauto. Unless you really like bolt guns of course. Only negatives I’ve heard about the Ruger is of course the proprietary mags. I could be wrong but I don’t believe they’ll take anything other than Ruger mags.
