You just had to bring this one back didnt you, I just cant keep my mind off a good one or two 1911s.

    Trying to decide between

    1. Kimber Custome II (base model) for $780
    2. Springfield GI (base model) $580
    3. Rock Island (base model) $480

I want to get one on layaway. I am looking for a good quality, drop dead reliable shooter for the first gun then maybe I will upgrade to a tactical later.

That will be it for Guns for a while until I talk the wife into a bigger safe.

I have the Springfield GI model and I love it. That 1911 is more accurate out of the box than I will ever will be with it. I noticed that one is for sale on the forum here if you want to take a look.

    a little more pRon

Kimber custom target re-did with 460 rowland comp kit, and extended controls, can also fire 45ACP/45 super.

RIA GI 1911 in 38 super auto.

If I get another 1911, it will probably be a polished blue Colt commander, or the new Delta elite supposedly coming out. For the money, they are probably the best looking.

I feel bad so please forgive me. When I was dropped here in Maryland and got my condo I bought a .45 but it's not a 1911. So I feel very out of place and as a service to this glorious gun-loving state I need to get a 1911.

Price range that I am looking at is 11-1200ish. I want to have a decent 1911 because I would like to get into some competitive shooting in the future.

I have been looking at Springfield's and Kimber mostly but some I would not mind some good advice and Gun shop. Only gun shop I have been to is Atlantic Guns and The Gun Store in Frederick.

As you know we are a bit of a captive audience in Maryland in price and choices. I like the guys at Atlantic have bought quite a few things from them, their prices are on the far high-side though I have picked up a few things I would deem reasonable.

Gun Connection out in Whitemarsh seems to cut some good deals but that is a hike.

Gun Rack in Burtonsville is hit or miss on price, usually they are way above MSRP for newer stuff but have really good consignments. Finally, they are really good about setting their price based on what they pay for it and not jacking it up later. They typically have really good prices on Kimbers, they wont get Springfield. Given they deal a ton of CZ they can probably get Dan Wesson for you.

I am leaning towards the Springfield or the Kimber mentioned above as a shooter, I will buy a high buck gun later politics allowing. Have to stretch my bucks as a minimum I want to pick-up a EAA Witness 10 mm (with several other slides), a Beretta Tomcat, a Walther, a .454 Cassul redhawk or alaskan and some basic .357 wheel gun. Focusing on handguns for the time being.

I visited Atlantic in Silver Spring today and the prices were fair. Maybe 40-80 difference between internet sites but nothing to terrible since theyre 20 minutes away the drive and convenience more than makes up for the FFL transfer issues and dealing with someone over the net.

I'm looking for a wheel gun also, was thinking of getting a S&W 500 with the 4" barrel but they will have to wait. Only thing that I might get in the near near future (pre-Inauguration) will be a .223 upper if I can get a decent deal on it.

That is nice, just like the one my father bought. Feeds 100%, shoots 100% (3" groups at 25 yards) and even works 100% with the cheap $7 gun show supposedly government contract 1911 mags.

    I agree with Qbeam.
a 1911 with its hammer cocked back and safety off- looks sexy and dangerous. Thats why it is called gunporn.

The fact that it's designed to be carried that way applies as well. Looks and function...and the safety is on in most of the shots.

now that i have all you 1911 guys here let me in on some of the advantages of 1911 over your other hand guns....i know this much very accurate gun due to the long barrell . i was shopping for a new handgun and i held a kimber 1911 and i really didnt care for the checkered grip it irritated my hand and i thought about when i shoot this thing is it going to rub my hand raw from recoil anyways give me your opinion
