So, I want to replace the muzzle device on my AR. It screws on and stays in place with a crush washer (yes, I figured that out all by myself!). So, the new device has a new crush washer. I'll be darned if I can work the device and the washer so the device is timed properly. No matter what I do, I cannot turn the device enough with my wrench so that it is timed properly. Tried a couple of different new crush washers, too. I'm still a quarter turn away from the correct alignment.

What do do, aside from cursing? :sad20:

Sometimes you have to back off a half turn, then try to tighten it again. And repeat that a couple times until it gets there. You're crushing it a little more each time.

I filed mine down. An AR barrel with an 1/2-28 threaded end has 28 threads per inch. The thread uses .035" of length per revolution. Divide .035" by four and you'll need to remove @ .008" to get the last 1/4 turn for correct fitment. .008" is about two sheets of notebook paper thick. Pretty easy with a flat file or sheet of 120 grit sand paper.

Methinks your eyes are a lot younger and better than mine, fella! ;)
