I'm looking through the specs for several cans and some of them state a minimum barrel length for calibers and some don't. If they don't state a minimum barrel length, is it okay to use with short barrels? If you were getting a can for a 10.5" 5.56 AR, what would be your preference?

I run my .30 cal SDN-6 on both my .300blk and 5.56. You won't have any problems with any can on a 10.5" barrel. It is plenty long to stabilize the projectile and prevent baffle strikes.

YHM 762 Phantom LT or LTA. Super light(for a rifle can), no POI shift and cools down FAST!

It's not (just) about baffle strikes. It's also about pressure levels, heat transfer, and errosion.

i have SF SOCOM 5.56 and it says it's rated for MK-18 (10.3" barrel) and longer on their website. I also have AAC SDN-6 too and AAC told me i can use it on any length SBRs with full warranty. SF SB is also rated for SBRs.

Went with SF 556-SB can for shooting my SBR. A lot of the lighter "higher-tech" cans didn't seem to be rated for 10" 5.56 last I checked, hence my decision. There is a second gen version of the can and it retails for cheaper than the first gen.

I like the SF can, but it really doesn't like coming off the mount. Though I suppose that's a "feature" more than anything else.

I have the same can and I've never had a hard time removing it. I always remove it hot.
