    Looking for advice/info...
Looking to have a family member transfer an AR to me that is md compliant. Does this work like a cash and carry scenario? Or will i have to go through a wait like buying a striped Lower?

    Thanks for the help guys

I am not a lawyer but at a glance if both parties are MD residents and the recipient is not prohibited it appears it should be fine for face to face. If transferring in from an out of state relative it needs to go through an FFL and a 4473/NICS per federal law.

So yeah, just a 4473 completed by an FFL either in your state or his/hers. Just make sure it is an HBAR or not a .223/5.56 caliber AR.

To add to this question: What if this was an AR pistol rather than traditional AR15?
pistol/handgun has to go through FFL01 in buyer's home state - different than long guns (FFL01 in either state)

for buyer in MD, need HQL, 77R, 7 day wait

BP728: your thread title refers to a rifle from Maine.

The correct legal answer depends exactly on what the deal is.

You need to clear this up...ME vs MD?

"ME" is a typo. Spell check on phone. Should be MD. All scenarios are in reference to purchasing a firearm from an individual that is out of state ghat will be owned in the state of MD.

An AR pistol can’t be legally transferred in Maryland. Maryland has a handgun rooster and the handgun must be on it, plus the 7 day wait, FFL and 77r and 4473 background check process.

From everything I have heard and the bit I have seen there are NO AR pistols on the rooster. You’d have to submit the handgun (FFL would) to MSP for approval and addition to the rooster.

Only real way to own an AR pistol in MD is to move in to the state owning one or more or build one in the state.

Oh, that little detail. One of the stupidest parts of a plethora of stupid gun laws in this state. I can legally build an AR pistol (which I have) but I can't sell it in-state.

    Why does that matter?

If legal in MD, the transfer can occur in any state with the rifle is legal. MD, VA, PA, WV, etc.
