Best general purpose barrel vise?

Don't give me AR-15-specific solutions. That's a solved problem.

I need a good barrel vise that I can use to hold barrels while I pull muzzle devices from them and put on ASR muzzle devices. I have a lot of different kinds of rifles, and need something that can deal with all of them, or at least most of them. I would love recommendations. Thanks!

The vise offered by David Tubb will work with just about any barrel. I have one and it has served me well for years. Search David Tubb and you should find his site. It used to be Superior Shooting Systems but, I think it is DavidTubb.com now, don't quote me on that though.

I don't know the application you need these for but I have a pair of these and they work pretty well for most things. I'm pretty sure they would hold a barrel pretty tight.

The best I have ever owned was when I had my gunsmithing business and I bought them from Brownells. They also sold all the different sleeves needed for changing different barrels. www.brownells.com

I've been looking into this too. I found an article where someone used a couple of 2x4s with friction tape. I can't find the exact article right now but this is an identical idea: http://www.instructables.com/id/AR-15M16-barrell-vise-block/

Just make your own. Put two 2x4 in a vise and run a spade bit of appropriate diameter(a little smaller than the barrel to be worked on) right down between them. A little rosin will help grip for stubborn removals.

That might work for a AR barrel but it won't on a Mauser barrel.
