It's not open to the public per say. You have to pay for and take one of the courses. Looks like they just use the range anyway. I believe the guys who give the course are Frederick city cops who have a part time business. It's not like there is open range day for the public.

I was referring to the one on Thurston. But I know what you mean.

Towers wouldd be for high angle shooting. We had platforms whrn I was teaching in CO. Hell of a lot of fun. Wish we had some in CT

So apparently, Jim Warfield (principal) of Frederick Ford, along with Andy Mackintosh were the selling group and knew about the proposed range as they sold it. Poor business tactics, as many homeowners around the area bought property their, including few horse farms from Andy.

Forgot to add that it is supposed to be for LEO/Fed training.
It was revealed at a public hearing.

So, for FED/LEO training, someone must have the promise of many contracts for the use of their facility. Which I doubt.

My in-laws were at the hearing.
I dont doubt itll be available for civilian use, hence the 100+ parking.
But the big money maker would come from contracts.

I've yet heard of tower shooting for non LEO.

I stand corrected. It was a public meeting for concerened citizens; hearing is July 24th. Residents and business owners gathered together to discuss the issue and to consider hiring a lawyer. It's quite serious. Especially for people who run horse training and boarding businesses.

There are more than a few ranges with towers for civilian shooters and publically held courses.
There useful for tree stand hunters, and high angle marksmen.

Are the ranges in MD that boring? Not that every range has this option, but we've used towers and raised shooting platforms in most states we've taught in.
