My wife just informed me that she needs a new small Swiss Army knife, because the old one "broke". I checked it out and she was right. I don't understand it, though. We bought it in the Basel Switzerland train station and she has only been carrying it for 33 years! Guess I'll have to spring for a new one. She isn't going to talk me into going to Switzerland to pick it up.

What was she doing when it "broke"?

(Not a dig ... I respect women who carry knives ... for what should be obvious reasons.)

The spine running the length of the bottom of the knife cracked. It acts as a spring to hold the blade open. Probably metal fatigue after a life well lived.

If it's a Victorinox, it has a lifetime warranty. There is a Victorinox dealer that is at the Silverado show that will do repairs or replace them under the warranty, he is very nice to deal with.
I have carried a Swiss Army knife every day since I was 12, when I got my first one in Germany. I think that I have 5 or 6 of different models now. The tinker is my every day carry these days, along with a Kershaw assist.

It's a Victorinox. Mine that I got at the same time is a bit larger and is still fine. I've replaced a couple of parts such as the scissor spring and toothpick. Guess I'll look for a dealer and see if the warranty is good.
