They should have had someone else to do the interview. These guys should have gotten to the point early in the interview instead of wasting what limited time they had. It seemed to me that they were not really prepared for this considering how high the stakes are with this issue. Megyn Kelly tried to steer them in the right direction but apparently didn't get the message.
