I have a Daisy 853 from the CMP to be delivered tomorrow. Where, from Annapolis to Chestertown to Easton, is the best place to buy .177 caliber pellets? And any suggestions for which pellets to try when pursuing accuracy?

The only place I can think off stocking a selection of higher end pellets isn't close to your desired corridor . The usual Crossman mass market pellets available most places that sell BB guns .

Cloest place I can think of is your computer. I've use Champions Choice pellets. They used to be made by H&N, I think. They are pretty good and not too expensive. Not instant gratification, but what worth while thing is?
PYRAMYD AIR used to offer 'trial' packs that included several different brands/models.
Seriously, in Maryland? Your BEST bet is MAYBE BassPro or if a lgs is still operating in your neighborhood. Should have gotten an earlier start! Next time...

    Good luck.

Order them from Pyramid Air on line. You get better quality and, if you buy 3 tins, the fourth is free. Stay away from Daisy and Gamo if you want any decent repeatability. Crossman premier is about the best you will get in a local store. Walmart is the cheapest place to buy them.

These are my favorite, very accurate. RWS Meisterkugeln .177 Caliber Pellets, Competition 8.2G, 500 count $16.95 on Amazon

and then there is any Walmart that will have a fairly large selection of ok pellets.

Mine did best with JSB 8.44, RWS Super Domes and the RWS Meist pellets..

I pretty much moved to .22's and have a bunch of .177 stuff left over. Ever get up to Harford County? I could make you up a "sampler pack".

BigTinBoat...how far are you from BWI? I will be flyout out some time next week. Perhaps we could meet up some time.

    Thanks for the offer.

I'm like 40mins north, and thru the tunnel (toll).

Tell you what. I love to see kids getting into shoot, especially air guns. Send me your address via the message system and I'll mail you the sample packs.(It will be cheaper then gas and tolls) I've got some 7 day pill holders. I can probably get 30-40 pellets into each day.

The only way to find out which is most accurate is to test a variety of pellets in your specific rifle because of manufacturing tolerances. Like .22 rim fire pellet rifles are ammo picky and what works in one rifle may not best in another rifle that is the same make and model.

If you look at the sorting choices on the Pyramyd Air web site, along the left hand edge, you will see you have choices of pellet shape, weight, and head size.

Here is a report on some air gun and pellet tests. Google will find others but do your own tests with your rifle.

    Truth!

My daughter shoots 10m air rifle competitively and the differences between manufacturer and even within the same pellet but different lot can make a significant difference.

I can't get an H&N .177 (tried 4 different) to shoot worth crap in any of my airguns. The H&N .22 is supposed to be top notch.

pyramydair and Amazon are my go to's; I don't bother to even look locally. Even though I have some better pellets for accuracy and some heavier pellets for game, Daisy wadcutters are my every day practice pellet. I wait to find them on sale and stock up. To me they are the CCI SV of pellets, slight inconsistency (maybe 1 out of 5 are fliers, the rest group well) if your standard for consistency is higher or you are really in competition go ahead and pass on them.

Got this coming to you. You should be set of a little while.

If you got one of the guns for yourself and need a longer LOP, here is what I did.

Here are the targets I use indoor at 10m

Wow! Thanks so much! Great karma indeed!

What is the assembly that you used to lengthen the stock?

I got the rifles today from the CMP (Daisy 853...one regular stock and one Monte Carlo). I shouldered one of them and obviously it felt a bit short. It kinda felt like an M1 Carbine.

That's a "fancy" one I did with a piece of 1/8" aluminum plate (to finish it off) and 2 pieces of aluminum tubing.
The first one I did was just PVC. I think I used 3/4" PVC cut to length and painted them black. Then replaced the original buttplate screws with longer ones. I think I used like 3" drywall screws.
