Uses Gun-oil Aftershave
I have been enjoying using my GoPro for various action shots and naturally want to find a mount for action shots from one of my ARs. I've looked at several different mounts and wanted to provide my experiences with each.
1. GoPro Sportsman - https://www.amazon.com/GoPro-Sportsman-Mount-OFFICIAL-MOUNT/dp/B00F19Q4LY
Official GoPro mount, it operates by virtue of a clamp (plastic) which would clamp to the barrel. - I dismissed this option because it would never stay in place with recoil and concern that heat from barrel would melt plastic clamp.
2. Strikemark rail mount - http://www.skdtac.com
My issue with this (all aluminum) mount was use of a set screw to secure to the rail system; issues - you must slide onto rail and the set screw didn't hold sturdy enough on a spec rail to avoid movement and also meant no quick on/off placement.
3. Rec-mount - https://www.amazon.com/Rec-mounts-Picatinny-Mount-Type2-Rec-b35-l/dp/B00HJGYGYE
Thumb screw made install on rail easy and was sturdy, had some difficulty with the aluminum mounting point for the GoPro not securing the camera tightly enough which caused some play.
4. POVMS Cantilever Mount - http://www.povmountingsystems.com/
This cantilever mount is similar to the Strikemark mount but provides thumbscrews for rail mounting. I found the mount sturdy, quick to install and it held tight even after a few mags. The GoPro end of the mount allowed easy install of a standard GoPro mount. Dependent on rail mounting location you can show no or some barrel in shot or reverse for an angle looking at the operator. This is ultimately the mount I settled on.
I'm going to experiment with off gun placement of several GoPro's running at high frame rate to video and help analyze things like handgun grip, stance, follow through, etc.
Would love to hear anyone else's ideas or experience.
