  • Found a post on a Russian site that, after a little further digging, resulted in my now being able to explain EVERYTHING you read on Soviet milsurp spam cans. Enjoy.

    Example for can of 7.62x54R:
    7,62ЛПСгж = 7.62mm light bullet with steel core and copper-washed steel case
    У65-75-60 = Lot number У65, year of production 1975, Factory 60
    ВТ 71/75 С = gunpowder type for heavy rifle bullets, gunpowder lot number 71, gunpowder lot produced in 1975, factory initial abbreviation
    440шт. = 440 rounds

    Example for can of 5.45x39:
    5,45гсПС = 5.45mm steel-cased steel-core bullet
    Н18-81-539 = Lot number Н18 (N18), year of production 1981, Factory 539
    СФ033фл 50/81 Б = Spherical flash-suppressed gunpowder type 033, gunpowder lot 50, gunpowder made in 1981, factory initial 'B'
    1080шт. = 1080 rounds

    Pretty sure any eastern milsurp spam canned ammo we can get our hands on is corrosive, no need to guess

    Except that what is "milsurp" is not always totally clear. Got my hands on a span can of Romanian AK food that the vendor holds out as non-corrosive new production, but that several forum members believe to be corrosive milsurp.
