I saw in another thread about someone asking about a Ruger American.I didnt want to hijack the thread so I started this one.If you are looking for a hunting, shooting rifle and not worried about a collecters value later, the Ruger is a shooter for sure.I bought one in 243 win last year and I cant be more suprised and happy with this rifle. Its accually boring to reload for because everything works. The safety isnt all that bad if you slowly release it

I still can kick myself for walking by a Ruger American Rimfire compact in .22 Magnum that I saw at the Chantilly show last month. Price was great but stupid me walked by it. Next show, if one is there I will be taking it home if the Va gun dealer will sell to a stuck in Crappy Maryland poor soul. If I had not found the SIG SHR970 at Cabelas I was going to buy a Ruger American in 30-06 at the Dunkirk Walmart. How can you go wrong with a great rifle for only $350.00?
