You'll see a lot of restaurants close, move out of the county or cut the number of employees to bare minimum. Like most such laws, it's gonna work in reverse and hurt rather than help. But the legislators will never admit that.

Maryland is a very business unfriendly state and Montgomery County just took that to a new level. What a bunch of idiots...the free market will speak and MontCo will suffer...fewer quality jobs, a revenue loss as businesses move and the welfare state gets bigger.

saw this on the news at lunch. made me sick. no education, no skills, no nothing and no investment in your future and you will make $30k. absolutely ridiculous and a disincentive to make yourself better.

McDonald's has almost finalized their automated fast food joint. They said they would implement it wherever they raised the mandatory wage to $15. I got this from a store manager, I have not tried to vet it.

The good thing about our system is it allows for mistakes and corrections will relatively (in the grand scheme of things) long term damage.

The problem is that it forces folks to admit they were wrong or made a mistake and well...government folks aren't known for that.

Good bye small shops in MoCo.

The amount of money earned doesn't make one "better" it just makes some people think they're better.

Over 50 employees. I wonder if it's 50 full-time or just 50 employees. Also, this doesn't go into affect until 2022 and 2024 (50 and below). Nit big news IMO.

Wow! Imagine how much they have to pay the ones that speak English!

No longer necessary or hired in MoCo.

Teens looking for jobs in fastfood in MoCo, if not bilingual are last hired. Same goes at county parks with boat rentals etc., to better serve the illegals clientele.

I think you missed the point, or I'm miss-understanding you.

His point, if I may, was that the need to make more money is an incentive to acquire better jobs through self improvement and training. Improving one's self is the key to advancement throughout life.

No I fully inderstood the point just as I understood the attitude it was made with and the ultimate purpose which was to be self important by essentially trash talking everyone who may be in a situation where they have such a job. I'm not even saying I think it's necessarily a wise choice to set it at $15 myself but I get tired of the chest thumping, smack talking, self righteous bullsh!t.

Not a damn person, myself included, is any better than someone working in fast food, sweeping parking lots, taking out trash, etc...

No doubt. It is skills and knowledge a person acquires that increase marketability and earning power. Has nothing to do with being a good person. Setting an arbitrary minimum wage is folly. Why not $20 or $25/hr ?

I respectfully disagree, but I'll leave it at that. I do not know either one of you and have no intention to drag my self into a food fight.

I will leave you with this thought. I was that guy. I persevered through hard work and the NECESSITY to succeed. No handouts. No over inflated wages. Good day.

The future jobs will be those few who service the automated machines that replace all the $15/hour workers. It's the career of the future and the rest will be unemployed and on the public dole. Thank you, Libs!

Great way to make a huge swath of people unemployable in MoCo. MoCo must not understand the law of unintended consequences.
