    #6 high brass.
If you’re hunting over dogs an open choke is better.
(I shoot IC for canned pheasant hunts)
I’d say most shots are no more than 25 yards if the dog is holding.

I’m with Brian #6 high brass.

It’s a good time over dogs!

Now to round two. The only way I’ve found i thoroughly enjoy pheasant is if you treat it like a chicken Marsala.

Is it just pheasant or are quail mixed in?

It’s not like trap where you shoulder The gun and know where they are going. At the beginning you may find your taking a longer time to get on target and they get further out. Thats how I was.

I like Federal High Bird#6 shot.

Just be carful as others have said. To much choke can lead to a mangled bird if you shoot them to close. I had a picture on my phone at one point of a pheasant that my son and another guy in our hunting party landed a direct hit on simultaneously at a fairly close range. The entire chest section if the bird was gone.

    FLUSH OR POINT

If your flushing birds high 2 3/4 high brass 6
If your hunting pointer low brass is fine

Preserve raised Birds often have to be kicked out of the high grass by the guide, so the shooting is often very close. Not many long shots unless you and your bud miss and the bird is getting away from you. Chukars are smaller than pheasants. In a guided hunt they are all mixed together. What do you all think of a wider choke and #7s? There is a good load by f........ called golden pheasant.

Yup, I did it once and it was not hunting or even quality shooting at all. It was a waste of money. Sorry.

    Try making pheasant tikka masala.
    It’s good.

Pheasant is dry and does well with some sauce.
OP if you have your choice to take home pheasant to eat or take home Chukkar, take the chukkar. I think it tastes much better. Pen raised birds are very easy to kill. It really doesn’t take much to knock them down.

I’m thinking a couple rounds of trap and a trip to Popeye’s would be more enjoyable.

I do wish we had a population of wild pheasant though.
