I've done it with the Green Mountain drop-in barrel.
Many sidelocks have a slower rifling for patched balls that do not stabilize the other rounds well.
Short answer, yes.
More details- the TC hawken .50 has a 1 in 48 twist rate, it's a compromise and not ideal for anything. Round balls like something in the 1 in 60 to 1 in 70 range, and the barrels you can get for shooting conical bullets have twists of 1 in 24. The rifle will work fine and be ok, but it will never be as accurate with any load as it could (without a barrel swap) because it was a compromise at the factory to be able to shoot both reasonably well.
It will absolutely be minute of dead deer accurate.

I have shot sabots in my t/c Hawken and killed many deer. What vin says regarding the ideal rates of twist for different projectiles is 100% true.
