I'm currently trying out loads for my Rossi 357 Mag rifle. I'm using the max load in the Hornady manual for 158 gr. SWC cast bullets with TiteGroup gunpowder. The rifle is shooting within 2 inches of the bulls-eye at 50 yards using a cheap red dot scope. The scope seems to be sitting kind of cock-eyed on the mount for some reason.

Will post reports on how it's going.

My Rossi 44 Mag has the barrel clocked wrong and the sights sit off a little. If you add the rail using the sight dovetail, the scope sits off a little. I didn't want to go through the hassle of sending it back to the factory at the time so I put a red dot sight on it which makes it a non issue. The rifle is one my most accurate so I kept it but there are times I wish I sent it back.

I think I might have the wrong mount on it. I never noticed the scope sitting this way before on any rifle.

Today I thought I was getting it zeroed but I made one too many adjustments and everything went south. I'll try again tomorrow.

I put my 2x7 scope on the rifle today. It sits a little too far in front but I'm going to see how it shoots with it anyway. I'll shoot it tomorrow evening.

Trying to use the 2x7 scope was a disaster so I went back to the red dot. I think I got it dialed in at 50 yards. One shot was about an inch off the bulls-eye and the next was almost dead center. Will shoot some more tomorrow evening. I want to use this because the ammo is cheap and easy to load.

Is your 2-7 scope a Long Eye Relief type? If not, you will not be able to use it.

I use a 2-7x32 LER scope for working up loads from the bench as the Red Dot is not precise enough. Because my barrel is clocked to tight, the fit of the scope is off and annoys me so I don't use it any other time. The Bushnell TRS 25 Red Dot holds up to the .44 Mag recoil and has no problem hitting pigs at 75 yards or deer at 100 yards. Another good thing about the TRS is that they can be found cheap. :D

The red dot is precise enough for me as I won't try to use it for much more than 50 yards. It is a pistol round after all.
