I recently read in one of the gun magazines that the new Taurus CEO was trying to turn the company around by focusing on quality control and warranty work. He said in the article that his goal was to have a four day turn around time for guns sent in for repair. I have a stainless nine shot model 94 that I purchased used several years ago at a local gun shop that never worked properly. Out of a full cylinder maybe three or four rounds would fire, two would have light strikes and the rest weren't touched by the firing pin. I sent it off to Taurus on August 24 just to see if they could fix it. They received it on August 25 and it showed up in their on-line system the same day. On August 30, four business days, I received an email that it was repaired and in the hands of FedEx. Return shipping was delayed a couple for days by Hurricane Ida (Taurus is now in Bainbridge, Georgia) but it is back in my hands this morning. The pistol works perfectly, fires on all cylinders, and Taurus didn't charge me anything for the work. My only expense was shipping the pistol to them. I have heard that Taurus doesn't have the best reputation for quality but their new CEO might be on to something.

I can’t imagine the changes necessary to turn that train wreck around. I had an absolutely unbelievable experience with them a few years back. Four day turn around is much better than the two years they ran me around for.

I have a model 94 ( purchased in the 1980’s) with the same problem. Will have to send it in and see if they treat me the same.

Anything made in Brazil is typically hit or miss.

Aren't they building many more guns in the USA, these days?

And just to be fair, a lot of things built in the USA are "hit and miss" these days. This isn't the 20th century USA many of us grew up with.

I have been lucky with my Tracker in .357. Although I only shot less than 100 rounds from it, I didn't have any problems with the gun itself. The only problem I had was I realized I'm not a revolver guy.

If only one could figure out if the pistol was made around the time of Carnival you could weed out what you don't want :)

I have HAD 2 Taurus 92/99 handguns. One was definitely sent back to be repaired and was flawless for reliability but a lot of slop that affected any accuracy. The other never had a problem.

I THOUGHT (maybe I was wrong) the revolvers were good to go.

Its ALWAYS good when a firearms company can turn things around. If gun sales are high right now, and cash is coming in, this can be the safe time to fix some things for them. The hard part for them is to do that pumping stuff out. Years ago during a recession, company I worked for had the lack of $ to do new R&D, we focused on fixing problems and reworking processes to be both higher quality and more efficient, then when the economy took off, we were putting out good stuff when the competition was putting out crap and new competition came in with new crap. It will be interesting if Taurus can resist just pump and dump for more $ and focus on quality.

My first two handguns were a Taurus PT92 and a Taurus 627 revolver.

Both were great, although I sold them and moved onto bigger and better things.

I don't hesitate to recommend Taurus to friends though. Their newer striker line especially.

I had a PT92 and that thing was a tank. Never an issue and it was accurate. Ended up selling it though, kinda wish I hadn’t.

In comparing the Taurus TX22 initial production to the Glock 44 initial production, Taurus seems to have put out the superior 22LR semiautomatic pistol according to a number of reviews

Lol four days would be nice… I had to send in an older 66 for a new barrel due to a cracked forcing cone and it came back six months later looked like some orangutan put it in a vice without any padding. I was and am still pissed considering it was super clean when I shipped it.

Still have my PT92 AF that I purchased new in 1992. Great accurate reliable pistol with a fantastic trigger in single action. Glad I never sold it.

Wanna sell it? I have been casually looking for a tracker

An old friend of mine had the PT92. He loved it. Also, I believe that was at the time Beretta had that slide issue.

I bought a Taurus Tracker 627 in 357 magnum with a ported barrel several years back and have put a few hundred rounds through it without a hitch. So far, I've only fired 38 SPC from it, primarily because I scored some at good prices. It's one of my favorite shooters, and friends who've tried it at the range love it--men and women. Taurus quality might be hit and miss, and I was lucky enough to have a found a hit.
