    M-16A1 was the first semi-automatic rifle I learned to shoot when I was 17. By the time I ETS'd from the Army at the age of 23, I probably had put 10k+ rounds downrange. It's a matter of familiarity, I guess? I always did well with the open sights on it - better than other rifles. It wasn't until I mounted a scope on one before I realized what a great tool it was for varminting and pest control on my in-law's farm.

    1. Because I wanted one

    2. Because it is my right to own one

    3. Because Maryland said "no" (2013), I needed to say "**** you"

    I'm still a newbie shooter, but an AR was my first must-have since I'm such a history buff. As I studied more, my next must have was a mini-14 with its Garand style action, and for many reasons it is now my favorite rifle.

    Sorry, but the courts have ruled that this is a "Collective Right." Hmmm, wasn't there something in the days of the Iron Curtain called "Collectives"? :rolleyes:

    Please explain your rationale for/against owning the AR-15.
    It's the best firearm in "common use....for the protection of self and others" (Heller), because it makes me happy (i.e., "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness") and because, like the framers, I don't trust the government.

    I guess I don't own one yet (AR SBR in ATF jail) but I wasn't going to get one until the state said I couldn't own a Springfield Scout. All of the reasons here are why i'm getting one but the biggest is probably because they don't want me to have one, and I should have one....or two ect.

    Biggest regrets post 2013, no AK and no Uzi... That thing sure is pretty.

    Whew...

    I don't feel so bad now!!

    :lol2::lol2:

    Terrible, I know, but I haven't had time. Been buying so much the last couple of years that it's tough to get them all to the range.
    Also, I'm completely new to the platform, so I'm looking for guidance to get started on them. I just threw money at the problem at the time.

    I just plain like the platform. Fits / shoulders nicely.
    Modular. Reliable. (Mine is. Your milage may vary.)

    I probably wouldn't have built one when I did if not for the FSA2013.

    I'm more of a C&R fan, but I wanted a (Maryland-legal) AR15 while it was still (Maryland-legal)

    I own, and have owned, a variety of firearms, from muzzle-loaders to the present day. Only one stays by my bed when I go to sleep at night. It's a 14" barreled AR-15 pattern carbine with a carry handle receiver with a 30-round magazine.
