Tripletail fun!

Caught this fella looking for Albies, which were non-existent. Spotted him cruising around and laid a fly in front of him and he inhaled it. Decent fight but my 10wt was a bit much...

The Capt was flipping out: "Don't lose it! Don't lose it!" and was visibly excited that it was hooked. Apparently, they aren't common or that big in NC waters. Ended up being 9.8lbs and I shared it with the Capt. Best damn fish I ever ate! Can't wait to get another.

MD just established a state record for a triple tail. I never even knew what one was until I read the DNR report.

BlackTipH on Youtube just caught a 40lb'er... Forget the state but it's massive.

I believe that is the first one officially caught here too. It was a new species on the record list from what I understand. Very cool for this and OP!

Congrats! Good looking fish.
They have a bull and cow (maui maui ) fishing tournament in Marathon in May when we go down and the triple tail is one of the fish that gives you bonus points. Hard to catch and most of the ones I've seen caught are not as big as that one.
