First 90 Kangaroos released in Wyoming

Dubbed “Project Sage Hopper” by the WWGD team responsible for evaluating the viability of Wyoming’s habitat for Australian marsupials, it has been in the planning stages for 3 years. The goal is two-fold: Create new and interesting wildlife viewing opportunities for tourists, and in several years, potentially provide additional hunting opportunities.

I don't know how I feel about this. Introducing non-native species is always fraught with unintended consequences. Just wait until they form roaming gangs in Cheyenne.

Non native species can be horrible for the ecosystems they are released into, but if they can find a niche without becoming destructive, the more the merrier. I had kangaroo meat a few times when I visited Australia, and I really enjoyed it. I'd love to have it as a regular option at the grocery store or in my deep freeze after a hunting trip.

I was worried about them accidentally hopping on a jackalope. Jackalopes are the Lego pieces of the western prairie. It could have been bad.

They're already a terrible hazard to skiers at Jackson Hole.

Well that's what I get for not reading the article. It's too bad though. Kangaroo really is quite tasty.

My mother in law was talking about this today. First thing I asked was if she heard it yesterday bc it sounded like it had April fools written all over it...
