Came here looking for advice on throwing blades.

The gf has decided she wants to try this. Christmas is coming.

We haven't been up to Fredneck in forever. Sounds like it's time for a road trip.

    Thanks all!

The biggest mistake people make is getting small throwing knives because they think they are cool and actually useful in self-defense. They have no self-defense purpose whatsoever and are entirely too difficult to throw.

Good knife throwers are throwing from a known distance and are throwing a known number of rotations.

With throwing knives, bigger is definitely better.

Thread resurrection as we had a 15yoa young man over with his little 5yoa sister yesterday and after Easter Supper (eat me Rep Omar!) I looked over and this young ball player had a look on his face so bored it was like,

“Shoot me, just shoot me NOW PLEASE!!!!!”

Thats when I remembered I’d ordered a dozen Cold Steel 12” throwers from MidwayUSA on Clearance last January and whispered to the lad (quietly enough so his sister wouldn’t hear), “Follow me.”

Alls I had was an old heavy (heavy!) cardboard box a stationary bike had arrived in and that’s when I discovered he didn’t just “play ball,” he is a pitcher!

Didnt take us long to disintegrate that box and we retuned into the house to rejoin everyone … it was grand to see the boy actually animated about anything so,

… today I went out and bought some dimensional pine and slapped together a 3-ft wide by 4-ft tall target for the whole family to get started with …

Everyone is excited so after reading this thread, and in addition to the (12) Cold SteeI 12” I now also have on the way:
    (24) Cold Steel stars (medium weight)
    (16) Cold Steel Templar hurlbats
    (12) S&W 8” stainless plain finish
    (12) S&W 8” stainless black powder coated
    (12) S&W 8” Sahara Sailor spikes

^That^ is enough of a start which oughta keep everyone busy for awhile, haha; I’m sure this is just the first of many, many target boards I’ll be constructing, too!

Cold steel are probably the best to get into it with. As long as they are non-stanless, matched for weight, and tempered tough, doesn't have to be all that fancy. Stainless and some ornamental throwers can be dangerous as they can break spectacularly if they hit something solid. My cold steel practice stuff is 1055 and really tough, worst case it bends, and can be straightened easily with a hammer.

I've bought & tried most of the cold steel throwers and the very best ones are their Battlestars and their Templar hurlbats.

Oh man! 16 Cold Steel Templars arrived today and after finishing chores for the day, I cracked 6 of em out of their packaging - what a freaking blast!
