Hey guys, I was looking for another 12ga (pretty late to the game, I know) so I figured I'd check a few pawnshops down in the city. One stated he had a 18in Mossberg 590, but I'd have to fill out paperwork and wait 7 days to pick it up. I said thanks, but no thanks and as I was walking out he expressed the sentiment that I was uninformed. I've never had to wait for a long gun in the past, do pawn shops have different rules than gun shops?

google is your friend, I am not.
There is no wait for long guns.

provided that: Some counties require a "stolen item" check - for example in MoCo guns have to be held for a certain period (21 days i think) while they are checked for being stolen. However the clock on the stolen item check starts when they walk in the door, not when the buyer fills out the paperwork.

Years ago bought a shotgun from Northwestern Pawn on Pennsylvania Ave---good deal--but slow going. When I was done they wrapped it up in newspaper and asked how far away I was parked (not far) and walked me to my car..A shotgun wrapped in newspaper looks exactly like what it is. I was in and out in a couple of hours.

That's where I was, actually. And it WAS a good deal, $250 for a 590 - but I wasn't fond of the idea of paying for something and risk the city being locked down in a week, or a few days, with the National Guard now downtown.

Some pawn shops hold firearms for 30 days when they buy them. To just cover themselves, by holding them for a pawn period.

But no wait for sales, once released for sale.

Ffl is ffl. Laws are the same for every Pawn shop or gun shop.

That is a pretty decent price. I considered adding an 870 with rifle sights and 18” barrel. But I figure prices are mostly sky high and availability non-existent. I am not short of other firearms. I’ll just wait till things calm down sufficiently and either pick one up then to add to my other 870. Or wait till gun shows start back up in a year or two.
