what pizzes me off is they make it sound like anyone and everyone from NJ or MD or whereever can walk into a gun store in PA and buy whatever they want, walk out, take it back across the border and start shootin up the place, because there are lax gun laws and a glut of guns blah blah its ********.

Most criminals are stealing guns, buying them from straw purchasers or tapping states with more lax gun laws such as Virginia and Pennsylvania, Thomson said.

In Pennsylvania, no permit is required to buy guns in stores or at gun shows, and there's no limit to the number of firearms a person can purchase at one time. Instead, the state requires a permit to carry weapons openly or concealed outside of a home.

"Pennsylvania is one of the states where there is just a glut of firearms," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey. "You don't have to travel too far to get your hand on a gun here."

Ramsey, who wants stronger gun laws, acknowledged that his city's weapons often make their way into Camden.

I am confused but don't you need to be a PA resident to buy a regulated firearm in PA?

No such thing in Pennsylvania, a firearm is a firearm. Now, by FEDERAL law you can't buy a handgun over state lines, but the fact that gun runners are already committing federal felonies never comes up when people blame traffickers for their own states' crime rates.

EDIT: Need to clarify/correct myself. While PA doesn't have a regulated firearms list, you can buy a long gun over state lines as long as the purchase follows the applicable laws of BOTH states. So you could buy a regulated firearm in PA, but he'd have to ship it back to a MD FFL to complete the transaction there. Still bolsters the point that "gun runners" are committing multiple felonies by selling to prohibited persons over state lines, and yet the 'solution' to inner city violence always seems to be more laws (for criminals to ignore).

Ramsey used to head the DC police. He was a total tool. He heavily politicized the DC MPD and made a mess. He took credit for our drop in crime which actually came from two things totally unrelated to his tenure: the Heller decision and a massive injection of federal funds.

He is a Chicago guy and it shows with his attitude: blame everyone except the criminals
