I was doing some yard clean up and found a pile of bricks. I ended up procrastinating on my work and instead build a super ghetto rocket stove. Despite how fugly it is, I was surprised how much heat this sucker can focus out the top pretty quickly. One day I want to cook a steak on it.

We are lucky to have electricity during this quarantine, if that changes a quality rocket stove might be nice to have.

Who has a rocket stove that they made or purchased?

My rocket stove is a few cinder blocks I have that will be repurposed.
Know how to make one; they’re very versatile.

This one made out of a 40mm. ammo can. 6'' stovepipe with perlite insulation.

Very efficient as all the fire is concentrated on the pot or pan.

I made one in a 5 56 ammo can. Comes apart and stores inside. I use it to make coffee when I camp.

I’ve been wanting to build one similar to this but with a rack on the top to hold a pot or a pan

We built several rocket stoves several years ago. Initially, we did it as an experiment because we had a pile of bricks and lots of little sticks from the sycamore trees. Later we extended that to a Cub Scout lesson.

A pile of red bricks is remarkably effective, and surprisingly fuel efficient. It's good for giving small kids something to do, too ... gotta keep feeding sticks.

I just have an 18.5" circular grill cover I welded a couple thin strips of metal to and can put it over one of my burn barrels for cooking. Makes a nice wood grill.

I have one in production like engineerbrians picture. I have to add the fuel door still and I made it with a slip on burner rig. I want to be able to add a griddle to it and maybe even a small box oven on top in the long run. I can't post a picture to this thread

What a great welding project. One of the skills I need to get some experience with. Never even turned one on...

    I am pretty sure

I could build this pretty easily at home... just not sure I have a need for it aside from it being a project to pass time?

I am pretty sure that you could sell these on CL or Let Go or any of the other sites that cater to getting rid of "stuff".

I had some random mismatched bricks and boredom. Well it is not pretty, but it works. Even with wet wood it was running very well. Thanks for the thread.

With Alpha's inspiration and total boredom today I threw this together quick... I guess it took about an hour?

I'm not impressed so far, but it passed some time
