Have an opportunity to pick up a nice 38 sp colt cobra from the mid 50s at a reasonable price. Not fabulous condition but still very nice. 6 shot, alloy, 15oz small frame. Was thinking of it for pocket carry with std pressure ammo. Anyone have any thoughts on this revolver they would care to share?

If its decent and you like it go for it. I have a detective special and like it pretty well. Would buy again. You gun will be lighter so shooting it would feel a bit different (maybe not as good) but to carry I'd rather carry yours.

They're great revolvers...I have several from the '50s, '60s and '70 not counting the newer versions in stainless steel. I used to carry a '70s Cobra when off-duty and restricted to revolvers. Standard pressure non+P is the way to go. There's a number of ammunition makers that make rounds for short barrel guns. +P is pretty much wasted in a 2" gun anyway from velocity loss.

You won't be unhappy with a Cobra.

Carry it a lot and shoot it very little. Not a very robust firearm. +P is an absolute no-no, especially for a revolver from that vintage with an alloy frame.

I use Critical Defense ammunition in mine. Pocket carry is the way to go.

I have one of these, too. Pocket carry is sub-optimal.
