I can remember the drills we used to do back in the Army for marksmanship training, the dime/washer drills, the box drills, etc... since I can only seem to make it out to the range once every six weeks or so what can I do at home to help build my skills back up and maintain them? I'm a firm believer that practice makes permanent so I'd like practice techniques that give feedback (like the dime/washer drill) but can that work with a Remington 700?

What do you do to "stay in shape"?

I fetched out the Soldier's manual for common tasks

    For weapons:
You also have the sight picture alignment, SPORTS (slap pull observer release tap squeeze) for the Ar15 variants corrective action, timed field stripping.

    basic skills:
Preparing range cards, practice first aid.

Patrolling the neighborhood might be out of the question:lol:

easy to remember.. BRAS = Breathe Relax Aim Squeeze.

Quarter trick is nice. I like to drill friends with snap caps. I'll randomly load a mag with a couple snaps caps. Maybe chamber one, maybe not. Maybe there will be nothing in the mag OR chamber at all. And then, when they least expect it, hand it to them and say "make this rifle safe". Eyes get big, then they go though the steps to clear it. At least I know I can hand a buddy a weapon at the line and he'll know how to use it.
