It would be fascinating to hear a knowledgeable reporter ask her some specific questions. So, she owns a gun. That means of course that's taken the steps to learn about them enough to decide which flavor to buy, how to handle it, etc. So, she's an informed candidate on the subject. Let's hear her specific thoughts on why she feels comfortable owning her gun "for her personal safety" (because she was a prosecutor - implying she might face retribution or something from criminals?) makes her safe with a given magazine capacity. Does her armed protection detail limit itself to the same capacity with their sidearms? If not, why not? Any conversation that even strays into that territory will show her to be the complete phony on this topic that she actually is.

I'd like her ask what sort of safety and proficiency training she has, and how does she keep current with her training. I mean given that she probably endorses the MD HQL law, I would hope that she goes above and beyond that sort of standard, to set an example.

Also, what capacity magazines does she use for personal defense?

Anything in the reporting indicating whether she had a California carry permit when she was AG? Or currently?

Much like Frosh enjoys plainclothes law enforcement protection when he's out and about, I'm guessing she had the same in California when she was AG (while vigorously promoting gun control legislation - like Frosh). Maybe she lost this upon becoming a Senator, and had to rely more on herself like the little people.

I remember hearing him on NPR years ago tell the host if you can't defend yourself with 10 rnds maybe a gun isn't the solution. Something like that.

Think about this a little deeper. She is in favor of people owning handguns for personal protection. That's reasonable. Wait.....what type of firearm is most commonly used in crime? Handguns....overwhelmingly so.

She wants to ban "assault weapons". A type of firearm rarely used in crime. One that is exceedingly difficult to conceal.

This makes no sense.

As California AG, she participated (with other state AGs) in an amicus brief in support of the DC handgun ban in the Heller case. Wonder if she owned one back then (circa 2008). Based on her statement of needing one because being a prosecutor is a dangerous profession, I’m guessing yes - and she had no problem supporting a ban for others but keeping one for herself.

Correct. Only congressional Big Cheeses get armed bodyguards. She's Just Another Politician now. She would need a CA and DC permit now. Unless she just keeps her "gun" in a drawer at home.

Members of Congress can request personal protection from the Capitol Police but it may require a credible threat or other special circumstances before it being approved. Or...they can do as Ted Kennedy did and hire his own professional bodyguards like those that got charged with carrying unauthorized weapons within Capitol grounds (including a smg if I remember correctly).

At one time (don't know whether it's still being done), members of Congress could request a US Marshal's commission which allows them to carry firearms anywhere. RHP...Rank Hath Privileges.
