I am going to disagree with Melnic on his point about washing the fabric. I use a mixture of 8 to 1 Ballistol and water or NAPA soluble oil and water. When sprayed on fabric that has not been washed, the fabric stays firmer and does not get holes blown through it. When I have washed the fabric, it gets softer and gets more burn/blow holes. I tested my theory over a few weeks and it was repeatable. Just my .02.

I just went with what I read consistently on the internet with the blue pillow ticking. Its easy enough for me to try both ways just to experiment and wash some and not wash some. I"m still working on the 2 yards of the blue and 2 yards of the brown I purchased in 2013. I think the walmart pillow ticking is like $5-$6 a yard. I think I used 7:1 Ballistol for my hunting patches. If one reads on the internet what patch lube to use, you get about 100 different answers. Spit, ballistol, Hopps 9 plus, MAP, tallow/beeswax, Beeswax/crisco, Bore butter .......

I did like the ballistol mostly cause I had it already.

I didn't mean to bite your head off. I was just presenting my experience for the conversation. You are correct, there are many different ways of loading a muzzle stuffer. Like any other gun, they all have different needs.

Nothing is wrong with disagreement in a polite manor (which you did). I have a (mostly) open mind and not nearly your experience so I can take the disagreement and ponder it.

Too many people get BUTTHURT on this forum (as welll as may other online places) when someone disagrees with them. Especially when someone feels they are an expert on something (I am no expert so no butthurt here).

When people ponder others suggestions when they may not agree with their own, they grow in ways they can't otherwise grow. I"m an Engineer so I rely on research and the experience of others in addition to my own. I'm also an Engineering Manager of a development teams so I am also a baby sitter, delegator and organizer of other people's ideas.

Oh no, your opening a can of worms about "compressed thickness" debate !

Ok, well if you know how to use a mic, you can only crank down so much anyway. :D

Just sharing how the people who mic fabric for a living do it in case some young person decides to follow that line of work. Your stuff and your tools so measure any way it works for you. For awhile I worked for the company that makes the astronauts space suits and they were a little anal on the subject.

Small world. 50 years ago, I worked part time for a fabric company too. They made Brooks Brothers suits. I doubt the factory was up to the same standards as one that made space suits thought.
