I just saw this videos on Youtube.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCLb2eItDyE

They use a promiscuous mode transmitter and a directional antenna on the receiver and were able to transmit video 6 miles over wifi. The only downside is that you would not be able to control a PTZ camera remotely.

    ToolAA?

In your research have you come across a polar beam profile chart for the M2 you use? Link maybe?
I'm gonna build another setup like yours with just 1 M2 at the target end for starters.

    Thanks

    EXACLY?
For some reason I thought the beam was tighter than that.
The data sheet is what I was curious about too.

    Thank you--

p.s.---This build might take me a while.

I think I will start with 1 M2 at the camera end.
The way I understand your description is that a Cat5 cable is not required
from the camera to the M2 after the initial M2 configuration.
My wifi camera would then connect with the M2 built-in wifi router.
Power to the M2 would come from a modified Cat5 cable to 12-24VDC.
    Am I correct so far?

That is correct. That configuration will work to 100yds with no problem and maybe 200yds if the antenna is aimed more precisely towards the shooter.

I was going to offer you a chance to see mine in action at the range but I just realized you are in Oklahoma City. Do you guys have any really long range places to shoot out there?

I will have a Yagi at the bench.
That might give me a solid signal at 200.

Yes. One 20 miles from me is on private leased land and there are 50 or so long range guys out there on weekends.
They shoot anything from 6mm to 50BMG up to 1.5 miles. The 6.5 guys are hitting 12"x18" steel at 1 MILE consistently!
One problem with finding a long range place to shoot is the backstop. This state is kinda flat.
Another gun club on the other end of town has a 600yd range for .30 cal and below only.
I can only shoot out to 200m (220yds) at my local club. I can also shoot my 50 there.

I figured you would have a lot of options like this. I would love to take my 6.5 out to a mile but the closest range to do that would be about 5hrs away in central Ohio. I’ll go there one day.

I'm making my own Cat5 PoE injector/adaptor for the M2.

For 12-24VDC power to the M2 you are using brn and brn-wht (pins 7,8) for - and blu and blu-wht (pins 4,5) for +.
That leaves the or and or-wht (pins 6,3) and grn and grn-wht (pins 2,1) pairs for data.
    Is this correct?

Sorry for the delay. I needed to charge the battery a bit to check.

Yes, 7,8 are negative and 4,5 positive.

I actually cut the other wires and dont use them for anything.

I'm ready to order an M2.
Is THIS the exact one I need?
    Or THIS one?

From my Amazon history I ordered the 2nd link. Ubiquiti NanoStation loco M2 - Wireless Access Point - AirMax (LOCOM2US)

However when I looked closely at the links, they both have the same model number. Maybe they are the same but listed by different sellers.

CPE stands for Customer Premise Equipment.

On the M2 main configuration page in the upper right corner there is a drop down list of "Tools".
One of those tools is "Align Antenna".
It uses the signal strength reading from the last packet recieved to display a colored bar with a -dBm scale.
    Updates every second.
You can also enable an "Alignment Beep" which allows 1 person to aim the thing.

    Have you used this tool?

No I have not, but its good to know, I guess.

I’ve read forum discussions where people setup one nanoststion in the city and basically aim them until they can find an unsecured network to tap into.

I have logged into the M2.:)
BTW it came with a nice 24VDC PoE
    injector/adaptor with power cable.
    It has XW.v5.6.12 firmware.
I guess it's so old it is not on their list.
I would like to upgrade to the exact same version you have
just to make sure we're on the same page.

HERE is the link for the firmware. Click on the
    "See Past Firmware" button.

    Thanks

I loaded XW v6.0.6 and cannot log back in after I change Router mode SOHO mode.
This version also does not have the Airmax disable option.
About to wear out the factory resest button. :o

I cannot login after changing soho setting.
The pages are different on the firmware I installled.
Default values are different and the diasable airmax button is missing just to name a few.
That's why I need to update to the same firmware you have.
Login to the M2 and go to system. Firmware version should be at the top.

    Thanks

Here is a screenshot of default values after Router is selected, saved and applied. Way different that yours.

    Network Tab.jpg
Here's one after I changed router to SOHO in the next step.
    SOHO default.jpg

After that I cannot log back in. Factory reset time.

Oh. And the missing AirMax disable check mark.
    Missing airmax disable button..jpg

If I had the same firmware as you I could make it fly.
Login into the M2, go to System and take a screenshot.

    Thank you--
