    To all,

    I just received a reply from my most recent PIA from the MSP with the following information [If there is anything specific you all want, let me know, and I will see if I can include it in a PIA; I do them on a monthly basis]:

    Number of active Wear and Carry Permits (W&C) as of 09/30/2017: 19,460. This is an increase of 255 permits from last month.

    Number of active Maryland Handgun Qualification Licenses (HQL) as of 10/20/2017: 85,574. This is an increase of 1,909 from last month.

    While the following PDF is not from my PIA, I thought it was interesting to post: MSP Licensing Division Weekly Report (03/03/2017 - 03/09/2017). I have attached it to this post and here is an imgur link.

    Other data received from previous PIAs:
    MSP Form 29-04: worksheet used by investigators during the process of W&C application;
    S.O.P 29-13-001: standard operating procedures for investigations and reports for W&C;
    Handgun Permit Review Board decisions, 2015-2016

    No response:
    * Number of W&C permits denied for the month of August 2017

    Historical stats for W&C Permits:
    Date Active Permits

    These are some high rates.
    Considering there are 6M people, and taking out <20 and >75, we probably have 4M left. So for every 1000 people, there are 5 with W&C, and 21 HQL holders.
    If we assume most of the W&C and HQL are in man's hands, then we're talking about one(1) guy has W&C for every 100 guys, and 4 guys have HQL for every 100.

    Did I get the numbers right?

    Why all the effort to restrict and label the report "For Official Use Only"?

    If Maryland is open for business, like Gov. Hogan says, why not publicize the effectiveness and efficiency of the MSP on its website.

    Don't citizens deserve to know how many new Private Detective firms are opening in Maryland, or how many security companies are closing or moving out of state?

    What are they hiding, the number of false applications the attorney general fails to prosecute?

    Hmmm, seems to me Jumping Jen and Monkey Boy should be spending their time in front of Sgt. Bonell's desk instead of at the HPRB if they really want to reduce the amount of permits being doled out. The HPRB are pikers compared to MSP...

    And if I offended anyone with the disparaging monikers, too bad. :D

    Care to elaborate on the false applications?

    In the process of selling a firearm to a new HQL holder, his number is #20088. Based on the numbers provided earlier in this thread, the HQL number doesn't equate to the current number of HQL's?

    Positive shout-out to Glen Burnie MSP!!! Went there this AM (4thNov) for transfer, the desk SGT was VERY pleasant and VERY professional!

    I would assume 25% are women. Possibly 33%.

    Went into Effect Oct 1 2013 , first Issued probably had a lag .

    And to further muddle the timeline, in the early days, at least some of the time , the active number was accepted for purchases before the physical card arrived in the mail .
