PresentArms: I believe there's a shuttle from the stadium parking lot to the House building, if that was the deciding factor. In either case, I hope that knee mends up quickly!

    Thanks

That has a lot to do with it and the shuttle would be a big help. I'm afraid that still would be a little much walking for me. I get short winded at 50 yards. I hope it all changes later but the knee/leg has mended about all its going to. I continue working to build its strength and that would get me more distance at least.

You guys realize that rattlesnake freed up his day tomorrow to go to the hearings and he's not even from Maryland.

Akshully...one of my co-workers asked me to trade days with him before I knew about the hearing tomorrow. Just happened to work out. But, hey, don't let the truth get in the way of the Legend of Rattlesnake. ;)

Has any one contacted the NRA to see if they would fund it?

Yes. And they won't at this time.

They have to look for easier nuts to crack, such as the more egregious bans in places like Chicago.

Other than CCW, we've got it pretty good here compared to other states. That's not to say it's good by any stretch, but to point out that they are going to go for the easier wins and solidify their position before going after places like MD.

    What am I doing?

Well, other than being on this board and educating myself on relevant firearms rights issues:
    - I'm also a NRA member
    - volunteer my time for my shooting club
    - of course, I belong to a shooting club
    - Write or contact my state and local officials on anything relevant to me
    - I vote, even in the primaries
    - remain open-minded

    - And, at all times try to project the image of a safe, responsible and respectful gun owner to the public. I try to do this in the following ways:
    - Invite friends to the firing range.
    - took a hunter education class. Looking forward to the season.
    - most of my friends know that I have more than five firearms in the house and I'm not a lunatic.
    - I have my CCW and travel extensively. When I visit friends, I'll ask their permission to bring my firearm into their house before entering.

    That's all I got.

I can add another bullet to the list of things I'm doing: I sent off a donation to MSI after winning the pint glasses auction. While cutting the "donation" check, I decided to cut another one to officially join the ranks of MSI members.

Maryland is facing a HUGE budget issue. Let's not omit the fact that selling CCW permits would provide income to the state. I would love to find out (and will try to tonight) how much money Florida makes by issuing those 110 dollar permits.

We would be introducing a new source of income to the state, and no one could say it victimizes poor people (as was the argument against slots) it in fact empowers them to be safe in their neighborhoods.

While I understand your premise... RIGHTS are not, and never should be for sale. Rights are exercised by free people or denied by tyrants. Forget permits and license... Arms borne openly in defense of yourself or the state (everybody else) is your birthright. Government cannot grant Rights. Rights can only be recognized and defended.... or DENIED.

I came to Arizona 40 years ago and discovered what freedom has been enjoyed here (by need or choice) since before there was an 'Arizona'...

Art 2 Section 26 Arizona Constitution: "The right of the people to to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves or the state shall not be impaired."

Not just obscure words... but completely observed by state, local and even Federal LEO's. Maryland is surrounded by open carry states... There've been no 'Wild West' scenarios. The only thing MD politicians grasp is hoplophobic fear of firearms... and the people. It's not about 'gun control'... it's about 'control'. Don't settle for half-measures... Take full control of your rights.

Well, I admit I have been riding the coattales of others on these issues. I always liked guns and enjoyed them. I purchased another handgun in Dec. and picked up a new AR for the inauguration. Until I joined this site however I never asked myself why I was able to buy those firearms. I just new I could. I joined a hunting club and we talk about gun control but who is listening to that?

So, last night I joined the NRA. I am learning as much as I can from this site and how I can make a difference. I plan to take what I learn and share it with the members of my local club and hopefully some of them are already involved and we can work together. Thanks to those making this site possible, sharing and educating people like me.

Hot damn and welcome aboard! I was just like you, unaware of the fight until I turned up here. If you're local club members can take the time to write some letters, concerted pressure is a beautiful thing.

That is a great letter! Thank you for your service to this Country. I doubt you will even hear from Frosh's staffers with that fine letter.
