Just trying to see what my options are for a traditional looking Muzzle loader (inline or sidelock) with the use of Blackhorn 209 and modern sabots.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Mike

Honestly, you can have either substitute powders and shotgun primers...or traditional. Not both.

Personally, I'd toss the expensive sabots and go with a traditional gun. A .45 round ball works fine on deer, a .50 or .54 works better.

I have duplexed BH209 in several sidelocks with percussion caps.
    15grains of 3F Goex then 60grains of BH209

IT was several years ago and it seemed like it was hard to get Traditional BP at the time.
It let me go quite a number of shots before swabbing the barrel.

I only shot sabots from the TC sidelock and it was not too bad. I recall it has a faster twist. 50 yards offhand using the plinking (all lead) sabots, it was about the same as my patched lead balls.

Anything but Traditional BP in my sidelocks yeilded an ignition delay. Duplexing was fine but using Pyrodex or the American Pioneer stuff (that stuff is horrible) I could hear the delay after the cap went off.
Adding just the little 15G BP before the BP substitute and making sure my channel was clear, no issues in ignition at all.
