Proposed amendment exempts private sales between individuals.

(Defeats the purpose of the bill.)

    Say bye-bye.

Looks like tomorrow we'll see HB4/SB208 in the Senate before they go to the House. They didn't suspend the rules. So, the House action will be next week, barring a Saturday session.

Really? They got rid of the $30 cap??? What were the gun stores not making enough money as it was?
There goes the only stop-gap against price gouging. Absolutely no reason to do that besides pure spite.

My only guess is some dealers bitched and decided to roll over on the whole thing and play nice with the Dems once the $30 cap got lifted.

No other logical explanation IMO. We've seen this crap before in other states like Illinois. Dealers would rationally be on board with a private sale ban - it makes them money.

I'm sure people will tell me this isn't true and THEY SUPPORT 2A but just look at how no import ban has ever ended lol.

    Money comes first

    Everything else is irrelevant

Huge mistake to compare MGA to other states

HB4/SB208 aren't yet listed on the Senate agenda for today, but that's not unusual. I'll keep an eye on it and report if/when they appear.

IMO, you are giving the legislators too much credit that they would reach out to or hear from the dealers. I put this squarely in the "if we let the dealers charge what they want, they will make it expensive, and the gun bunnies will get screwed, so let's remove the cap" camp of legislative sausage making.

Interestingly, this was basically because they had no idea what dealers currently charge. When they discussed this during the voting session for SB208 where they first passed this out of committee, they were worried a cap would make it impossible for dealers to comply if it was too low, which they didn't want to do, and they were worried a higher cap meant all dealers would charge the max, so leaving it "reasonable" would encourage competition and lower pricing. Which version had the $30 cap?

Isn't any charge to do the background check tantamount to being a poll tax which is unconstitutional? Can you charge a fee to exercise a constitutional right?
