    billet
    [bil-it]
    noun
    1. a small chunk of wood; a short section of a log, especially one cut for fuel.
    2. Metalworking. a comparatively narrow, generally square, bar of steel, especially one rolled or forged from an ingot; a narrow bloom.

IMHO: Billet only means made from one piece of metal. As above, Billets of metal can be forged. I think the two terms are used rather carelessly.

It shouldn't matter for a range rifle. You will be fine with whatever you buy.

Congrats on the purchase and good luck with the build.

I have two Spikes forged slick sides, both work great , one is in a 6.5 build and the other is a 7.62x39 . Its a nice clean look. I think they are still under 100 bucks.
