Hunting hard the last 4 weeks in western MD, with a couple trail cams out. In that time I don't have 1 pic of a deer during daylight. Normally I would have hundreds of pics. This year is the gift that keeps on giving.
Jumped 2 doe first day walking in, too far, and that first very cold morning had a doe broadside right out at 50 yards, but I was shaking a little from being cold so I felt that was a bit far right then with the crossbow. Sitting morning and evenings, walking some of the afternoons. Other than those, nada, not a tail, a short or wheeze going in or out of the woods. Almost no shots heard either since rifle opened up. Just nobody in the woods moving them around like years past.
Glad to see some nice buck in here, and wow there have been some nice ones on FB taken out of Garret Co.
Good luck the rest of the season everyone!

Long shot, but anybody got a spot on private where I could bring a kid to sit next to me? Flame away if I'm out of line to ask, or PM to talk about it. Mainly hoping to at least see some does - even if I'm lining something up for late gun season at this point.

I've brought a kid out on public a few times the past few days since I missed the beginning of gun season, but with the pressure, choice reservations taken, and their little legs/need to hunt from ground haven't even seen deer. Wasn't really assuming we'd be successful, but figured I might be able to find something. They're starting to wonder what I am doing in the woods when I go alone.

I've explained that in bow season, I at least see deer, just that they were too far out... Not sure they buy it.

If I had a place, I'd be game, but unfortunately, I'm stuck hunting public as well. I had one visit to a private place this year and that's where I nailed my buck.

I think things have just been weird this year. Warm weather later than usual, more people out and about thanks to many folks being able to play hookey easier thanks to COVID, rut starting right at the beginning of the month but gun season starting at the very end, etc. etc.

Watched half a dozen bucks to trotting by me when I was out at my chicken coop today at 30-40yds. A couple big forks, a big 6 a small 8 and a couple big 8s.

So now I know where my neighborhood bucks have been at. Also I need to hang a crossbow on my chicken coop.

I have a lot of game camera pics of this bad big. Haven’t seen him much on camera the last two weeks. Might try to line up some time Friday to head to the backyard and see if I can connect with him in the morning (he is coming by at night and in the mornings. Nada afternoon or evenings since early November).

Next year I really need to find the time in the rut to hunt back there. Wasn’t able to this year even if it is only 100yds from my house.

More of him. Also a mini 8 who wanted to ham it up for the camera.

Also the giant fox that has been menacing my chicken coop some. Almost connected with him a couple days ago, but he took off as I got to the door with my 22

My first antlered buck! Got him with my big scary rifle. .308 I think 150 gr soft point. Spined him and he just dropped like rock and didn't even move. He has a big body on him. Got him at 50 yards when he put his head down. He was facing me, so I took a hail mary shot for the spine. I dont think I've ever made a better shot on any critter. It was 5PM and i could barely see him but got the scope on him.

Was lucky enough to get out for Sika down near Blackwater yesterday. Got this 5 from just under 200 yards with 308. Over gunned but the Nosler Ballistic tip did its job, dropped got up and dropped for good 10 yards from shot spot.
