There's a long history of putting inanimate objects on trial, going back to ancient Greece.

Maryland should adopt this policy, since they're so concerned about violent guns. The solution: try the pistol. Upon conviction it will be destroyed. Some think the owner should be included in the trial, but of course the gun was in all likelihood not used by the actual owner.

That link is definitely an interesting read, and the narrative that (I'm paraphrasing) random, chaotic acts must be able to be reasoned to fit into the human psychological schema and thereby be able to be controlled by humans is very telling and applicable to gun control.

Essentially, freedom is, by definition, chaotic. Chaos does not sit well with the human psyche on a fundamental level (when you think about it, just about everything in modern Life is designed to bring order to a chaotic world).

The key word in gun control is control. Control of people, control of death, and control of freedom. The interesting thing is, a government is not opposed to people, death or freedom... So long as they get to dictate what kind of people, who dies, and how much freedom.

Blaming the gun for murder is like blaming a car for hit and run. Until our courts get serious about incarcerating CRIMINALS, our societal problems will continue.

However the governments in this country have prostituted themselves over the years, that we may never get back. First it was gambling, that was going to be the cure for budgetary shortfalls. Now they are saying how much tax revenue can be generated by the selling of marijuana. Some local governments are now saying that magic mushrooms will now be legal and will probably be the new spokesman for a balanced budget.

With the degradation of our governments, is there any wonder that the criminal is now the new protected class?
