My next C&R purchase will probably be a WWII dated 1911. If someone knows a good website or book that specifically discusses the WWII produced 1911s, please let me know. I want to be able to identify them at a gun show based on manufacturer and serial numbers. I clearly cannot do that right now and need to rely on the seller to be completely honest with me when looking at them. Prices are all over the place, so need to determine what is supposed to be fair based on condition and configuration. Thanks!

I have seen legitimate Colt 1911's that are in horrible conditions (meaning the blued finish is wearing off, there's a lot of holster wear on them, some of the stamping is worn away) starting at no less than $1,000.00.

But they are out there...just how much are you willing to pay for your pistol is the question?

Fortunately, I've handled them at the shows and had the funds to purchase, but didn't, because I wasn't sure what I was getting what I was told it was. The info provided has been really helpful for learning about the configurations and markings. I see these as investments that I can enjoy a few times a year at the same time, so I don't mind paying the price. The 1911 and the Luger will probably be my next handgun investments.
