  • I am in the beginning stages of creating about 1000 300 Black Out cases from 5.56 and it's a lot of work. I want to ensure I get as many reloads from them as I safely can so I am looking to have them annealed. Since I don't really want to put the time and money into building my own annealer (It would rarely get used after these are complete) I am looking for contact info on some person or business that can do it for me..

I found one post here in the search but I don't see any contact info or pricing..

    thanks in advance.

I just hold brass cases over and open flame and toss them into water once they begin to become uncomfortable to hold. Somebody makes a machine but its pricey I think.

    Same here. Just made 150 7.62 x 25 from 223 last month.
Annealing is the least labor intensive step.

The purpose of standing them in water is so the case head stays hard. Overheating the brass can remove the zinc content at about 800deg.. A dab of tempilaq on every other few cases will help develop the feel for how long the case should be held. Use a candle and a wet towel.
.308 bout 8-10 seconds, smaller cases considerably less.

We have a user here that does case annealing, https://www.mdshooters.com/member.php?u=6256

He moved to FL but I was asking about having cases done and he quoted me $55/K 6mo ago.

"Typically I charge by 1,000 pieces or medium/large flat rate boxes.

It also depends on what level of service you need, basic or full service. Full service includes Annealing.

Basic is $40 per k, $65 for medium flat rate box, $100 for large flat rate box.

Full service is $55 per k, $85 for medium flat rate box, and $140 for large flat rate box.

I have relocated to FL, but the shipping is included in the prices and they are the same as when I lived in MD."

I bought .300 BO cases from a source that used LC brass, and annealed them.

It was cheaper and easier than doing it myself. I will look around to see if I can find the source.

I’ve noticed that annealing 300 blk can be tricky because it’s such short case. Depending on how many you want done I may be able to get you squared away. Shoot me a pm OP.

I sent him a message a few months ago to see if he was still doing this and never got a reply.

My experience with the 300 BO in maybe five years of reloading it, is that the primer pockets open before you get mouth or shoulder splits. I shoot only supersonic loads using 150gn bullets and get at least seven reloads out of Lake City cases. I anneal my 30-06, 8x57 and 30-30 but don't anneal the 300 BO.

The worst cases you can use for 300BO are the Federal. The primer pockets on them open up pretty fast.

Hm, I'll go back and see when last contact was for me. FL has got to be way more fun for gunowners than MD maybe he doesn't have time anymore. ;)

He had a lot of equipment. Never heard of him selling any of it.
