My first handgun was a S&W Model 19 with a 6" barrel...still have it. I have a couple of other 6" .357 revolvers but tend to shoot 4" revolvers more. For .357 use I think a 6" gun is the way to go.
Walter's Gun Chamber or Valley Gun Shop?
I bought my 686 from Walter's around 1985
Like you, I've wanted a 586 with a 6" barrel for 20+ years. I bought a 686 (Talo edition) with a 5" barrel and while I love it, it still tends to be a little front heavy. When i get a 586, it will be a 4" barrel

Also prefer over sized grips on the S&W's, I don't have large hands, but the factory grips seem too small.
a 6.5in Blackhawk is pure sweetness
While the 4 inch might be a little easier to carry, the 6 inch barrel is pretty unmatched for accuracy.
What kind of holster is that(left)?
^^^This.
4" is snappier and less accurate. I prefer 5 or 6" barrels. But its hard to hide those in your pants.
It’s an old Smith and Wesson branded holster. Triple K makes a similar one called the Secret Agent

I think it was Valley. I still have the box and the receipt. IIRC, I paid $269. I realize it is a Taurus but it is purty and works well.
