Usually, you canoe down a mile or so of fantastic scenery and fishing, go to shore, pull your boat up to the canal and paddle back.
PROBLEM- Canal has no water in it now.
We will only fish the upper areas, my shoulder is shot, I can't do what I did as a Youth - then we will pull the canoe back up over the initial rubble, then paddle home.
Done it dozens of times.
I'm guessing 5 PM at Violette's. Friday 7/5 - I am in the long Yellow OldTown Tripper. Canoes and kayaks only. Bait I use -
Gary Yamamoto D/T in pumpkin or green.
I have done this run for 30 years..... You do need a fishing license and Life Preserver.
I start by going over the initial scree and park my canoe at the end by hanging up on rocks on purpose. I do this always here. I start casting. You have not really stirred up the hole... YET.
Give this 10 minutes at least. Drop into the hole and anchor and stay 1/2 hour.
Patience. These first holes are pretty large at level 3.4.
So the issues are -
How to drop over that initial scree - (I am in the back, I get out and manhandle the canoe over, then hop in. Never had a problem. If the water is really low, you both get out and carry.
If it's high, I do not have to get out.)
FROM THEN ON, it is safe technical boating.
AND Technical Fishing.
