Even the clueless in the middle realize that you aren't going to get rid of the criminal's guns. Only the pie-in-the-sky ultra-left (who dream of ultimate domination/capitulation to their ideals) would view this ad as being anything related to gun control.

We need to produce an EXACT DUPLICATE of this piece of propaganda, where the crazy ex pulls a huge KNIFE, instead of a gun. (After all, our knife-control laws are far too lax.)

I strongly believe the reason open carry (and even CC) makes people uncomfortable is they live in a world of plausible deniability (i won't get robbed, what are the odds I'll need to defend myself today)

Seeing a gun, even in the hands of a good guy, forces them to confront the fact that the world is a scary place.
