Wanted to give a big shout out to md forums for helping our family. You have helped us find membership into AGC, helped me decide on how to find a good place to bow hunt and little did you know you also helped my wife with a Coast Guard case for a missing duck hunter in D.C.
So just wanted to say thank you, the Maryland hunting community has been top notch helping our military family and as we move to San Antonio, I hope we can find ranges, groups and people as wonderful as the people we found in Maryland.

    Thanks everyone!

San Antonio is one of my favorite cities and on my short list for retirement.

Big enough to have all the stuff a city has, but small enough to still feel homey.

    GREAT eating.

I am considering a move to San Antonio as well. I have two big questions.

    1. Is it far enough from the border to not be over run with illegals?

    2. How does the humidity compare to MD, especially in the summer?

Enjoy your assignment in Texas! If you pick your house carefully you can potentially get some good hog hunting right in the neighborhood. Look at places that back up to wooded areas near the 1604 loop. I lived a few miles south of Sea World and killed plenty of hogs with my crossbow :)

Look how far away Maryland is from the border...

Can anyone recommend an area where I should get a hotel? I will be in San Antonio at some point for like a week for work. Work will be at Kelly Field Annex, and I don't really want to stay in the hood. Suggestions for a hotel?

:lol: If you are worried about illegals you best not go to San Antonio...on the good side if you like Mexican or Tex-mex food you have plenty of options there...

Humidity can get very high...I remember the first time I got to San Antonio on my way to boot camp...I stepped out of the airport and couldnt hardly breath because of the humidity...:lol2:

San Antonio's great. Cost of living pretty reasonable, ~30 cents less for a gallon of gas. Lower utility bills (except for water, if you water your lawn).

Live on the Northwest/North side of town and you'll be fine. Schools over here are pretty good.

Humidity is nowhere near as bad as Maryland - SOME summer days can get humid when the wind blows from the East. Average summertime humidity is around 50%.

Get your Texas DL as soon as you get here - you'll initially get a paper one (seriously), but you can buy a gun with it and walk out of the store 30 minutes later (seriously).

    Lots of good gun shows.

Look up Texas Gun Talk - lot's of good information on that forum (and the usual assortment of douchebags).

    Welcome!

    1) Plenty of both, illegals and legals. Hard to tell. :)

    2) It depends on which side of the city. The city is about on the line between humid and desert. West and south is desert; east and north are humid, but green.
