I'm going into DC tomorrow (job at the Navy yard).

Since I have to leave my handgun home, am I okay with a folding knife (spring assist, approx. 3" blade)? And how about a tactical pen?

What are the applicable laws in DC? ("Digest version".)

    Where they send me.
I think folders are OK so long as they are under 3in. You also have the Federal rules to watch for which I think is also 3in.

I would carry a small pen knife if that works for you. Buy one to meet the regs if going there all the time, that is what my brother had to do.

I would expect the pen to be OK but I stick with the Zebras since they are all metal but not "tactical".

    Enjoy dc:)

If it's a one day trip I wouldn't risk it. Doubt you'll have any issues in dc but you may be checked at the Navy Yard and if you are and they find it they will likely seize it. Not worth the risk/hassle for 1 day in my mind.

I don't know what security is like at the Navy Yard, but it's not a place I would try to push things.

Good reason to pick up a traditional folder at Walmart on the way.

I used to carry my Boker urban survival [1and a 1/2" folding scalpel type blade] in DC on vacations. Always had to hide it in one of the many huge flower pots outside the museum of natural history when I visited. [They have metal detectors to get in]
