I just tried to buy them today at H-Mart in Ellicott City but they said it's too early this time of year. Not sure if this is true regionally or just H-Mart.

What is the deal with boiled peanuts? What do you like about them?

I've never had any, but since I've moved south I've seen roadside stands selling them. My wife tried them one time and she didn't like them, the texture was mushy.

It's a snack food. It is a thing in Hawaii too. The mushy texture was overcooked. It is a preference for folks, some like them crunchy, semi-crunchy, and soft. Hawaii's version has star anise and Asian spice variations. Southern style has more flavoring from Southern cooking. They go well with beer...…

I enjoy them when I’m down south but it’s not something I’d eat on a daily basis. They shouldn’t be mushy, they should be soft and tender, like me.

Boiled peanuts? Meh. Fresh roasted? WOW! Shoppers used to carry uncooked peanuts. Our local shoppers shut down so I don't know about the others that are still open.

First time I had them was in Georgia a few yrs ago. Friends mom was making them and said “well hello John how bout you sit on down and have some boiled peanuts”. I didn’t think they sounded good either but I also didn’t want to be disrespectful so I dove right in. It was a bit of an odd food taste and texture but they were pretty good. When my wife discovered them later she was hooked too.
