Built a couple Glock mag based AR9s. The FM9 side on top is what I use in competition. Got one of his early uppers with a heavy barrel, and it wasn't all that reliable with reloads or defensive ammo, he sent me an improved barrel with a better chamber spec and lightweight profile, and it has been flawless ever since, the LRBHO works 100%, run a 5.5oz buffer and std carbine spring to run soft and fast with low power reloads. The other is a 7" QC10 PCP build with KAK bolt, AR10 carbine spring and 8oz buffer, runs 100% with HP or FMJ light or +p, the LRBHO is 90% reliable, and it is a lot of fun suppressed. Would love to play around with the CMMG radial delayed set

Delayed blowback is a game changer for PCCs. I would not even consider getting a direct blowback at this point.

I personally have been flirting with the idea of a grand power Stribog myself, but know they will be coming out with a delayed blowback version in the next year I would imagine, that has me reconsidering to wait for that version.

My Sub2K 9mm Gen 2 M&P runs and runs and runs, no cleaning necessary. Haven't had a malfunction since I bought it and I run my own cast bullets and 5.1 of Powerpistol.

I put Glock springs into Promag 32 rd mags and they run as good at the Glock mags do.

I took the sights off and have a Sig red dot on it.

    Wait.

I have 2 PCCs. One is a Colt pattern. It has a .308 buffer spring and a Q9 heavy buffer. The felt recoil is significant. My other is built around a CMMG radial delayed bolt/barrel. A JP captured 9mm buffer spring. It’s night and day. Very little felt recoil. Much quicker follow-up shots.

Eh, I placed 5th overall and second in PCC with the Scorpion I posted earlier at a Steel Challenge match today. I had to switch to the AR9 for the last three stages. The AR felt like a boat anchor the first stage, I warmed up enough to end up on a high note. If I can shoot a USPSA match as well as I did the SC match, I'm turning it into an SBR.

Sweet- I’ve been thinking about removing the factory iron sights on my rifle since I never use them and to take off some weight.

Completely agree. I think the MPX is the best of the bunch, but the MkG is a pretty close second. The PTR-9 is good, but I cannot get past the marginal placement of the safety, and the lack of LRBHO isn't optimal either. The Magpul SL grip module might make me more of a fan if that ever comes out... we'll see.

I have a MPX, and love it. Shot a MPX and real MP5 back to back and honestly liked the MPX better. However, there is a special place for the MP5 for me. Since I wont pay for a real MP5, I've been in the fence about the PTR9. Feel just like an MP5?

I have a sub2k also. Feels cheap because it is. Not bad for a "trunk" rifle not in the same league as most of the others mentioned.

What advice would you give someone looking into an mpx? Anything you think needs changing on them out of the box to be more functional?

I had a Sub2K and loved the idea of it, but just couldn’t get excited about it once I had it. It shot well but it just wasn’t for me.

The Beretta CX4 Storm replaces the Sub2K and it is fun to shoot.

Once you're over the price tag, just pull it out and shoot it. Cycles everything well that I've put through it (115gr-158gr). The trigger isn't great at all, super heavy. Put an optic on it(if you choose) and trigger job...you're good to go.

With something like a Vortex Venom the optic co-witnesses with the irons. Since I don't have a high dollar sight on it yet, I'm leaving them on until I get a Trijicon MRO.

I honestly have started to enjoy shooting PCC, more than I do ar-15's.

easier on the wallet with regard to ammo, and doesn't beat up the cheek and shoulder as much.

Also, does nice work at 25 yards at most indoor ranges.

For the AR based PCC's you MUST run a fully ramped bolt if using a standard AR trigger or any 'aftermarket' 2 stage trigger meant for the rifle caliber guns/bolts.

If you use a non ramped bolt you must use a 'dedicated' style hammer. If you put a non ramped bolt and a regular trigger together the results can be interesting..

CMMG seems to be the only game in town making a reliable fully ramped bolt.

Plenty of ramped bolts as good or better than CMMG out there. Faxon is much better such that 3rd parties are already making race parts for them like Titanium firing pins. There are also dedicated competition bolts like Taccom and a number of others. Best bolts have a machined gas block with a flat front that is either machined into the BCG when it was made or attached like an an AR one but with a better system.
I run a Faxon bolt (after having 2 cheap ones break at the gas block) Taccom titanium firing pin because its tapered where it necks down into the bolt whereas the stock ones are flat faced at that point and the FP can break there (ask me how I know). I use a Timney drop in AR flat trigger in mine and have ever since I started.

MAC has a video comparing the 1st gen and 2nd gen MPX. Short answer, the 1st gen had tighter groups suppressed (non-sig suppressor) compared to the 2nd gen despite contacting the manufacter. 2nd gen had tight groups using stock configuration.
