Does any one have an opinion? I'm in the market for one of these and I do't see much of difference. My FFL was confused, they are approved at the MDSP site and reputable online sellers will ship to MD.

Also, where is the best place to buy one? I would prefer to buy locally.
The realistic online sellers are in the low $300's.

    Thank you for any input.

The Mossberg is considered safer (from what I read) because of the strap on the pump handle.

    I haven't fired either.

There is a strap available that is compatible with the Magpul system, I have it on mine (Tac-14) as well as the Magpul “handgrip” system. Figured it was worth doubling up on!

I personally would go with what I already have. Maybe it's just me,but for training purposes i'd choose the Mossberg. Not because I think it's a better gun (you can't go wrong with either), but I have a Mossberg 500 so there's no "learning curve" for lack of a better term. I live down in St. Mary's county and can 100% recommend Gym Ratz.

I opted for the Mossberg. can't go wrong with either I think. the +1 capacity swayed it for me. Just be aware that these are treated as handguns in MD and you will need an HQL before you can buy one, and are subject to handgun transport requirements. good info on both in the shotgun section.

For me it would come down to where you like the safety, on the trigger guard like the Remington or on top like the mossy.

I'm an 870 fan but given the nature of this thing, it, or I, would shoot from the hip (simple with practice) and would think the safety on top (Mossy) would be easier to manipulate.

Has anyone heard much about people building their own from an unbuilt receiver?

I watched a few hickok45 videos about this very question recently. Good references. Probably many other videos on youtube on this topic too.
